Quick Tips

Hello everyone, my name is Gabrielle Lewis.  You are listening to my message advocating the importance of saving, especially for retirement.  I am not licensed; however, I have learned about managing money through my work, from the school of hard knocks, by reading blogs, and from discussions with savvy friends.

My mother would be the first to confirm that our family didn’t have much money to manage, so I didn’t learn how to resist the urge to spend the last dollar in my pocket and save for a rainy day.  I am proud to state that I have worked my way out of debt. This message is simply to share what I have learned and implemented in my own life.

The blog this podcast is embedded, is intended to promote awareness about the importance of short-term and long-term saving and provide quick tips on how to save.  Finances are very personal and the topic can be uncomfortable to discuss. I have worked in finance for seven years and because of the concepts I have learned, I want to help educate you to better provide for yourself, and perhaps for generations to follow.

Typically those with limited resources have a difficult time saving for their future. Their focus is to survive for today and hope things will work themselves out.  But the steps they should take are simple, and there are a variety of ways to save. It’s as simple as clipping coupons before grocery shopping.  Again, limited resources shouldn’t stop anyone from understanding the strategic benefits of saving for the future.

The trick is to put some of your money in a secure place and leave it alone. Tuck a portion of your income into a savings account online to make it harder to access and open an Independent Retirement Account, also known as an (IRA).  It’s wise to invest with someone who offers low annual fees and high fixed or stable income funds; sometimes they pay higher rates of return than a savings account. For more information consult your local bank or brokerage company.

Thank-you for your time, this concludes quick tips on how to start saving.

Question for You

Does your company match a 401(k)(a) plan? If they don't, is that stopping you from saving?  It's important to remember that we are the only ones responsible for our future.  Ensure that you are in control and start saving as little as $12.50 [Pre-Tax] per pay period.  Leave it grow and help feed it with annual increases.

Tip #2 Choosing a Theme

Incorporate pictures that relate to the topic. Landscape images can provide contact comfort; which meet affiliation needs. Sell the story.

Tip #1 Choosing a Color

The blog communicates the importance of saving. Keep the colors light in tone; greens and yellows to reflect peace, relaxation and money.
